The application of penetrant is performed after the test surface is completely clean and has been properly dried. Almost any technique is allowed for penetrant application, including spraying, brushing, pouring, or dipping. Penetrant should never be allowed to dry completely on the test surface. The test object must be turned or moved to prevent pooling of penetrant during the dwell time.
